Cost to Improve Your Business's Cyber-Hygiene? $0.00
The global health crisis has made us mindful of practicing proper hygiene habits and has forced our businesses to adapt to succeed in this economy. During this time, we should also look to improve our cyber-hygiene as well. Cyber-hygiene is the steps and processes a business uses to maintain a secure system while improving online security.
This steep economic downturn is increasing additional pressures on competing segments of businesses’ overall budgets. However, as federal, state and local governments have warned, cybercriminals do not have the same constraints. In fact, cybercriminals are actively attempting to take advantage of the pandemic.
So, how do we increase our cyber hygiene for free? The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) provides a list of free and reduced-priced cybersecurity resources available from public and private entities. The categories for businesses include, but are not limited to, Careers & Professional Development, and Employee Awareness Training. Within each of these categories, you can find free cybersecurity-related training, videos, toolkits, games and phishing simulation tools for use in the workplace. Again, businesses have a tremendous amount of free resources to jump-start or modify their cybersecurity programs while remaining on a limited budget.
