George Morris Selected to Birmingham Business Journal “Best of the Bar” List
BIRMINGHAM — Apr. 12, 2024 — Phelps partner George Morris' commitment to his health care clients and the Birmingham community earned him a place on the Birmingham Business Journal’s Best of the Bar list. Honorees were chosen based on tangible accomplishments, their status within their legal practice, and their role in shaping their firms and the legal community and economy.
George helps health care providers and their insurers navigate complex litigation, transactions and regulatory and licensing issues. George’s passion for medicine led him to work in the health care field for several years prior to pursuing law. He has scrubbed into surgeries, rounded on patients, run an after-hours clinic, overseen care for children with mental health issues, and provided in-home family therapy for at-risk children. Having seen it firsthand, George combines his medical and legal experience to counsel the hospitals, clinics, physicians and mental health providers that power Birmingham’s largest industry. He currently serves as managing partner and health care practice coordinator of the firm’s Birmingham office.
George’s passion for health care extends to his personal life, where he and his wife, Dr. Julie Morris support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama’s annual fundraiser, Pink Palace Casino Night. He has held leadership positions with the American Heart Association’s Birmingham Heart Walk, and manages the firm’s sponsorships of The Bell Center for Early Intervention, KidOne Transport, O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center and Children’s of Alabama.
George's legal practice and leadership have been recognized by many of the leading peer review publications in the country, including The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers, as well as Birmingham Magazine’s Top Attorneys and Birmingham Business Journal’s Who’s Who in Law. He is active in several professional organizations, including the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association.
“I am honored to be chosen among the best and brightest in the Magic City’s legal community,” George said. “It is really a tribute to talented and caring people at Phelps with whom I have the privilege of practicing. With their support, I look forward to continuing to make an impact throughout my firm and the local community.”
George was honored at an awards ceremony at the Harbert Center on April 11.
