Jeremy Grabill and Virginia Stewart Join CityBusiness Leadership in Law 2024 Class
NEW ORLEANS - July 31, 2024 - New Orleans CityBusiness named Phelps partner Jeremy Grabill and associate Virginia Stewart to its Leadership in Law 2024 class. The publication awards 50 local lawyers each year for leading the way in both the legal field and their communities.
With nearly 20 years of experience, Jeremy has developed a highly successful litigation and appellate practice. He is a trailblazer in the legal community, raising professional standards and seizing innovative opportunities. Jeremy guides influential businesses through complex, high-profile cases and appeals involving multi-district litigation, commercial disputes, maritime issues, and insurance and tort litigation.
Jeremy played a pivotal role in expanding Phelps’ appellate practice firmwide, bringing a sharper focus and enhanced capabilities to fortify the firm’s ability to secure and preserve victories for clients. Under his leadership, Phelps emerged as a top appellate firm and currently files among the highest number of appellate briefs in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Recognizing the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, he also spearheaded the integration of a firm-based AI system to protect client privacy and enhance Phelps’ legal services.
His commitment to the legal profession extends beyond his work for Phelps’ clients. Jeremy leads Phelps’ involvement in the United States Law Firm Group’s Litigation Committee and serves on Law360’s appellate editorial advisory board to improve news coverage on legal issues. He also gives his time and experience to pro bono clients, ensuring access to legal counsel for individuals across the Greater New Orleans area.
Virginia focuses her practice on helping New Orleans’ education, real estate and transportation leaders resolve a variety of complex disputes. She also advises domestic insurers in matters arising from first-party property claims, including bad faith, construction defect claims and third-party liability claims.
Virginia is planting roots in the local legal community through advocacy and mentorship. She has quickly emerged as a leader at the firm and is frequently chosen to represent Phelps at professional events, such as the New Orleans Bar Association’s Bench Bar Conference and the Louisiana State Bar Association Annual Meeting & Joint LSBA/LJC Summer School.
Outside of her practice, Virginia actively seeks opportunities to lead and is closely involved with the New Orleans Bar Association. She serves on the Young Lawyers Section council and has co-chaired the New Orleans Bar & Grille and inaugural Cornhole Classic fundraisers. She has also helped to construct homes for low-income families through the Bench and Bar Build fundraiser, which benefits New Orleans Habitat for Humanity.
Virginia has also chaired NOBA’s Big Easy Bootcamp, which is tailored to newly barred lawyers seeking further insight into the legal profession. Virginia has also served as a mentor for the Southeast Louisiana Legal Services’ Access to justice program and frequently serves as a mentor for summer associates entering the legal field and offers insight as they build their careers.
New Orleans CityBusiness will celebrate Jeremy, Virginia and their fellow honorees with a reception at the New Orleans Museum of Art on October 7.
