Lawyers of Color Honors Michael B. Victorian on 2023 Hot List
BATON ROUGE, La. — July 18, 2023 — Phelps associate Michael B. Victorian earned a spot on the annual Lawyers of Color Hot List for the second year in a row. The list spotlights early- to mid-career attorneys who are nominated by mentors, peers and colleagues for demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing diversity in the legal profession.
Michael represents package and freight delivery, fuel, construction, education, health care and restaurant franchising clients in state and federal courts across the county, helping them resolve labor and employment disputes and commercial litigation. He is also among the firm’s leaders on ESG-related issues.
“Michael’s accomplishments both in and outside of the courtroom make this recognition well-deserved,” said Ragan Richard, managing partner of Phelps’ Baton Rouge office. “He brings the same dedication to clients as he does to his work in the community, guiding young attorneys in his local bar associations and mentoring Baton Rouge’s youth as a leader of the 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge.”
“Lawyers of color have a duty to be excellent,” Michael said. “It is an honor to be recognized among other such accomplished members of the profession.”
Lawyers of Color chooses honorees through a two-pronged process. A selection committee of editorial staff, fellows and advisers spent months reviewing nominations and researching legal publications to find promising candidates. They also made editorial picks based on attorneys’ accomplishments, giving special attention to candidates who were active in diversity pipeline initiatives.
With a community of more than 50,000 legal professionals, Lawyers of Color is a nationally recognized nonprofit that works to promote diversity in the legal profession and advance democracy and equality in marginalized communities. It celebrates attorneys of color and conducts research on the intersection of the legal profession and social justice. The organization releases several yearly publications, including its latest Hot List, where Michael was recognized with his fellow honorees. Hot List awardees will also be celebrated at the reception in Washington, D.C., on July 19.
