Madison DeWitt Spotlighted on Greater Baton Rouge Business Report’s Forty Under 40 List
BATON ROUGE - Nov. 5, 2024 - The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report released its annual Forty Under 40 list, naming Phelps partner Madison DeWitt to the magazine’s featured rising entrepreneurs, creators, executives and young professionals. Madison and her fellow Forty Under 40 honorees will be recognized at a celebratory event Nov. 14.
Elected to Phelps’ partner class in 2022, Madison serves as a key advisor to public and private companies across Louisiana, finding creative solutions for both big picture and day-to-day concerns. She negotiated $350 million in transactions to bring clean energy projects to a local industrial manufacturing facility and advised on the $2 billion development of a new clean energy facility. Madison credits her strong group of mentors at Phelps, who have helped her achieve these career milestones since joining the firm in 2013. “I am very fortunate to work with people who are at the top of their professional game, but who also are good and kind people,” Madison said.
Madison has served on the board of directors for The Emerge Center, including during the founding of The Emerge School, which offers resources to children and families facing a diagnosis of autism or communication challenges. She volunteers her time with City Year Baton Rouge, which focuses on creating a supportive learning environment to middle school students in low-income households. Madison also enjoys playing an active role as a volunteer at her children’s school.
Beyond her legal practice, Madison stays abreast of constant developments in the corporate and financial sectors through active involvement with the Louisiana Bankers Association and the Emerging Leaders Council of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry. She also serves on the Women’s Committee of the United States Law Firm Group, collaborating with fellow firms to share ideas and experiences in law firm management, operation and practices.
Madison values the importance of a healthy work-life balance to stay at the top of her game. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her family, spending time with friends and playing tennis. An adventurous eater, Madison is always eager to try new local restaurants and different types of cuisine.
Madison emphasizes the importance of understanding one’s motivations. “Know your why,” she said. “This was advice given to me early in my career concerning contract negotiations, but this translates equally well into all aspects of life and helps you remember what is important at the end of the day.”
