Nicholas Morisani Leads Mississippi Chapter of the Federal Bar Association
JACKSON, Miss. — June 15, 2021 — Phelps counsel Nicholas F. Morisani started his tenure as president of the Mississippi Chapter of the Federal Bar Association after the chapter’s membership voted him into the position at its monthly luncheon on May 18. As president, Nick will direct the chapter’s bimonthly meetings and engage with members of Mississippi’s federal bench at all levels, including bankruptcy, appeals and district courts.
The Federal Bar Association has spent a century supporting lawyers and members of the judiciary involved in federal law. Nick now will lead the Mississippi chapter’s over 175 members, who hail from private practice, government agencies, military branches, law schools and courts across the state. Nick quickly rose through the chapter’s ranks, serving in various positions on the board in the past few years. This, along with his experience representing and advising clients in Mississippi’s federal courts, makes him well prepared to head the organization.
Nick’s tenure as president runs through December 2022. He will be responsible for guiding the Mississippi Chapter out of the pandemic and into the “new normal.” Nick also will represent the chapter at the Federal Bar Association’s Annual Meeting in September.
As part of Phelps’ labor and employment group, Nick helps private and public employers handle claims involving federal law and the U.S. Constitution, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation and civil rights. And before he joined Phelps, Nick served as a law clerk to the Honorable Sul Ozerden, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi.
