Phelps Dunbar Makes Bold Move on Health Care
The health care industry is in a period of dramatic change — and one of its leading law firms is changing, too. Phelps Dunbar, known for its representation of providers has added a new team of lawyers.
Formerly of Baker Donelson, the group handles health care litigation, state and federal regulatory matters, risk management, ERISA, privacy and cyber issues.
“With the continued trend of consolidation in health care delivery and the focus on innovative collaborations between patients, payors and providers, our clients need to know as much as possible about other participants along the health care continuum. The new team helps us provide a 360-degree picture of health care and life sciences issues," said Phelps health care practice leader, Jeff Moore.
Leading the new team is partner Errol J. King, Jr., who has been recognized as a top health care lawyer by The Best Lawyers in America for the last 25 years. King is a past vice chair of the HMOs and Health Plans Substantive Law Committee of the American Health Lawyer’s Association, and current general counsel for the American Association of Plans, Administrators and Networks, as well as the American Association of Preferred Provider Organizations and the Third Party Administrators Association of America. He is resident in the firm's Baton Rouge office.
Health care litigators Dan Guillory and Katherine Cicardo Mannino are working with King in Baton Rouge, while Craig Caesar handles antitrust, intellectual property, privacy and data security issues from New Orleans.
Phelps's expansion reflects both the need for creative, integrated approaches to health care law and the firm's long-term commitment to the industry. "Health care has long been a core practice of Phelps, and with aging populations, an increased focus on wellness, and amazing advances in innovative technologies, it is certain to remain so." said Moore.
