Phelps Dunbar Mourns the Sudden Loss of Counsel, Richard Montague
Phelps Counsel and friend Richard Montague, Jr. passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019. Richard worked in the Jackson office and concentrated his practice in bankruptcy and creditor’s rights litigation. He is survived by his wife, their two daughters and two grandchildren.
During his law career, he served as Chair of the Mississippi Bar Association Lawyers and Judges Assistance Committee, President of the Capital Area Bar Association, Editor of the Hinds County Bar Association Newsletter, and was a member of the Mississippi Bankruptcy Conference and American Bankruptcy Institute. He was active in service to the community, predominantly through his church and Habitat for Humanity, where he served as President in 1996-1997.
We will greatly miss Richard’s keen intellect, sharp wit, kindness and wisdom. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
