Phelps Dunbar LLP has hired six lawyers in Raleigh to serve the business and litigation needs of companies in North and South Carolina, adding strength in health care, construction, employment and intellectual property.
Phelps' office in Raleigh will have almost 20 local lawyers with the six new recruits. The firm said on Thursday that it will move into a bigger site at the end of the year to accommodate its plans for expansion.
"Listening to the needs of our clients is what drives our growth," Marshall Redmon, managing partner at Phelps, said. "The addition of these six lawyers in the Carolinas expands our employment, business counseling and litigation services provided to insurance and other industry clients."
Phelps opened its Raleigh office in 2011, and growth since then has been supported by business coming to the Carolinas, the firm said in a statement.
Patrick M. Meacham will join as a partner and build a regional litigation team with three new arrivals. He will be joined by associate Tyler C. Radtke and associate Maeve Healy and partner Jonathan E. Hall, who joined Phelps in October 2023.
Meacham and Hall both came from Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, where Meacham worked for seven years and Hall for nine. Meacham has practiced in Raleigh for more than 25 years, and Hall for 31 years.
Meacham is a trial lawyer who works with clients in areas such as professional negligence, products and premises liability and catastrophic personal injury. He also advises hospitals and health care providers to manage risk and strengthen their policies and procedures.
Radtke has practiced for more than 10 years in Raleigh and has defended clients in commercial litigation, products and premises liability cases in industries such as food and beverage, insurance and intellectual property.
Healy has served as assistant district attorney with the district attorney's office in Johnston County, in the Raleigh-Cary metropolitan area. She prosecuted criminal misdemeanor cases and represented the district attorney's office in 15 bench trials. She recently served as head coach of Campbell University Law School's international arbitration program.
Drew Patty, an intellectual property lawyer and partner, will divide his time between the Phelps offices in Raleigh and Baton Rouge. He has 25 years of experience in advising clients in areas such as medical, energy finance and manufacturing on patent, trademark and copyright matters.
Sarah Covey Blount joins as counsel to expand Phelps' construction practice, including construction and contract law and asset recovery through commercial collections, foreclosures and liens.
Associate Matthew S. Perez moves to Raleigh from Phelps' Tampa office, where he worked in the labor and employment group, regularly representing major employers in litigation. His cases included claims and discrimination, harassment and wrongful termination.
