Phelps Expands Birmingham Presence With Addition of Real Estate Lawyer Michael Odom
BIRMINGHAM, Al. — July 19, 2022 — Phelps welcomes real estate lawyer Michael Odom as a partner in the firm’s Birmingham office. He will help Alabama-based lenders handle the soaring demand for commercial real estate financing caused by the influx of major companies moving their operations to the region.
Michael is a trusted advisor to his clients, guiding them through various stages of growth across Alabama and throughout the Southeast. He is a highly regarded real estate lawyer, recognized for commercial lending transactions, homebuilder-related development transactions and land use and condemnation litigation.
His background in real estate litigation informs his approach to transactions and helps him spot potential issues before they arise. He has participated in all phases of land development, from acquisition and permitting to breaches and dispute resolution. Michael is often the lawyer of choice for clients involved in all aspects of land acquisition and development.
“Michael is an outstanding lawyer with strong ties to the banking and business communities. We are eager to work with him as we continue to expand the services Phelps provides to Alabama clients,” said George Morris, Managing Partner of Phelps’ Birmingham office.
As an additional aspect of his practice, Michael serves as an arbitrator and mediator. He is a registered arbitrator with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the Alabama Arbitrator Roster. He is a certified arbitrator for the Birmingham Better Business Bureau and is registered on the Alabama State Court Mediator Roster.
Respected by his peers, he has been listed in Best Lawyers in three categories: Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law, Litigation – Land Use and Zoning, and Litigation – Real Estate. He is recognized as the 2022 “Lawyer of the Year” for Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law in Alabama.
“The chance to work with such reputable lawyers in Alabama and across the Southeast is an exciting opportunity for me,” Michael said. “Joining Phelps will provide a full range of services to my existing clients and allow me to expand my work in real estate litigation.”
