Phelps Invests in Fintech Support for Banking and Corporate Clients
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Nov. 11, 2021 — Phelps has added Chris Couch to its business team to guide banking and financial technology companies through the complex issues facing the industry, including increased regulation and constant cybersecurity pressures.
“Having Chris on board strengthens our ability to customize corporate, banking, finance and M&A legal services to each client’s needs,” said Phelps Managing Partner Marshall Redmon. “His experience counseling companies on the forefront of fintech will help our clients make the right deals to unlock new areas for growth. Chris is an important part of our expansion strategy in northern Alabama.”
Chris works with super-regional banks and company executives to make informed, practical decisions on both traditional and cutting-edge issues. Decades spent advising market leaders across the country, as well as an early career in banking, drive his understanding of the ripple effects that industry trends and business strategies create throughout a company’s operations. He has worked on every side of the fintech landscape, helping innovative startups raise and allocate capital and helping banks develop and invest in new technology.
“The world is growing increasingly complex for financial institutions and privately held companies alike,” Chris said. “The team at Phelps provides clients throughout the Southeast and across the country access to an impressive roster of transactional and regulatory resources. I am excited to join the firm’s complement of highly experienced deal lawyers and regulatory specialists, and look forward to assisting clients in solving their most challenging strategic, commercial, compliance and risk-management challenges.”
“Chris’ depth of experience benefits clients across Phelps’ footprint,” said George Morris, managing partner of Phelps’ Birmingham office. “From navigating complex deals to managing ongoing corporate finance issues, Chris brings new capabilities to the comprehensive counsel we offer clients.”
A graduate of University of Alabama School of Law, Chris will be resident in the firm’s Birmingham office. For any questions, contact George Morris at 205-716-5297.
