Phelps Meets High-Level Litigation Needs in Carolinas with Addition of Jonathan Hall
RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 31, 2023 — Phelps welcomes go-to litigator Jonathan Hall to address the needs of sophisticated companies in the Carolinas and expand Phelps' capabilities in Raleigh.
Jonathan joins Phelps’ deep bench of experienced litigators across the Gulf South, helping the firm expand its trial support for clients with operations in the Carolinas, Virginia and throughout the Southeast. He has built a well-earned reputation working closely with in-house counsel, risk managers and executives to forge litigation strategies focused on minimizing risk, limiting exposure and managing litigation spend. Clients rely on his counsel, informed by deep experience trying high-exposure jury trials, to leverage positions for settlement or confidently take cases to trial.
Jonathan will lead litigation teams to help companies resolve high-profile, complex commercial litigation, including product liability, catastrophic injury and professional negligence cases. His experience handling more than 100 bench and jury trials throughout the Carolinas and across the country will equip Phelps’ clients with a partner who can guide them through every step of litigation.
Recognized as one of the nation’s top product liability lawyers, Jonathan possesses the experience to counsel a wide range of clients. He serves as regional and national trial counsel for major product manufacturers across the U.S. He has secured defense verdicts in high-exposure trials over commercial disputes and cases arising from industrial accidents, alleged professional malpractice, employment disputes, transportation issues, and allegations of defective products, as well as cases involving toxic torts. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, he also led a trial team in the first fully remote federal bench trial held in North Carolina.
“I appreciate the opportunity to join Phelps and help to lead its burgeoning litigation practice here in the Triangle, the Carolinas at large and Virginia,” Jonathan said. “The firm recognizes the opportunities presented by the unprecedented growth of these markets, and I am pleased to lend my experience as we expand Phelps’ footprint.”
“Businesses across the Carolinas, and in the Triangle in particular, are facing increasingly complex legal challenges,” said Kevin O’Brien, managing partner of the firm’s Raleigh office. “Jonathan is a well-respected member of the North Carolina bar and the Raleigh community. His impressive trial and litigation experience add to the ongoing growth of our Raleigh office and will be an asset to clients across Phelps’ entire geographic footprint. We are excited to share Jonathan’s wealth of experience with our clients.”
