Phelps’ Move to Historic Massey Building Deepens Roots in Downtown Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — June 6, 2024 — Phelps renewed its investment in downtown Birmingham with a move to the newly renovated historic Massey Building. Colliers International Alabama’s recent $8 million renovation continues the revitalization of the Magic City’s business district and deepens Phelps’ roots in the community.
For Phelps, which combined with Cabaniss, Johnston, Gardner, Dumas & O'Neal in 2021, the Massey Building is a natural fit to serve clients across the region’s thriving markets. Cabaniss Johnston shares a more than 100-year Birmingham history with the Massey Building. Both have seen the city grow from an industrial economy to a cultural hub for health care, emerging businesses and the arts. Both have embraced reinvention to uphold their historic service while meeting the needs of Birmingham businesses today.
“The Massey Building is a remarkable building that presents a unique opportunity to invest in the downtown Birmingham economy,” said George Morris, managing partner of Phelps’ Birmingham office. “We’re proud to partner with an institution that shares our roots in the city and provides such a great platform for us to support our clients.”
In the heart of downtown Birmingham at Third Avenue North and Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North, the building was thoughtfully restored to honor its turn-of-the-century architecture while adding modern amenities.
“The character of the Massey Building speaks to the kind of firm that Phelps is,” said Jamie Justice, managing partner of Colliers. “Our focus on preserving the details that make this city unique echoes the firm’s understanding of Birmingham’s dynamic business culture.”
Phelps opened its doors at the Massey Building on March 25.
