Phelps Partner Class Recognized for “Tipping the Scales” Toward Gender Parity
NEW ORLEANS — Nov. 4, 2021 — Phelps joined this year’s list of firms working to close the gender gap in partner promotion at large law firms. The firms awarded for “Tipping the Scales” had 50% or more women in their 2021 partner class.
Recognized firms were chosen by the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance’s New Partner Report, a yearly breakdown of data from more than 100 of the largest law firms in the U.S. Phelps earned a spot on the list thanks to its 2021 partner class, led by three talented and dedicated women attorneys—Ashley Heilprin, Erin Malone and Regina Vasquez-Espinosa.
For the past 10 years, the New Partner Report has examined the gender breakdown of partners in U.S. offices, pulling data from publicly available firm announcements and other self-reported sources. The 2021 report, which analyzed partner classes promoted between Oct. 1, 2020, and Sept. 30, 2021, showed modest gains in the percentage of women promoted to partnership.
The 67 “Tipping the Scales” firms were recognized at the Diversity and Flexibility Alliance’s Annual Conference on Nov. 3. The Diversity and Flexibility Alliance is a think tank that works with organizations to create flexible workplace policies that promote inclusive work cultures and advance more women into leadership positions. It provides resources, training and strategic advice to improve organizational effectiveness through diversity and flexibility.
