Phelps Partner Tapped for Judicial Evaluation Panel
BATON ROUGE, La.— Litigation partner Michael D. Hunt has been appointed to a three-year term on the ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, Phelps announced today. The Committee evaluates all federal judicial nominees and provides ratings to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Evaluations are based strictly on professional qualifications: integrity, professional competence and judicial temperament.
Appointment to the 15-member Committee is based on a lawyer's professional achievements and reputation. Hunt will represent the Fifth Circuit, which includes Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
"Michael is an outstanding choice for this vital public service. He is a fair man of the highest integrity and standard, unwavering in his commitment to the highest professional and ethical conduct. In Mike, the Committee and the profession have a tireless and trusted contributor of sound judgment," said Phelps Managing Partner Marshall Redmon.
A career litigator, Hunt has represented clients in federal and state civil and criminal matters in numerous jurisdictions. He is an American Arbitration Association Arbitrator and has been recognized for excellence by Chambers USA and Martindale-Hubbell. Hunt will continue to work with Phelps clients during his Committee tenure.
"I have great respect for the federal bench and the people who serve in the federal judiciary," said Hunt. "If there's anything I can do to assist in maintaining the tradition of quality and service provided by that branch, I am happy to do it."
Hunt served as Managing Partner at Phelps from 2008-2018. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University and Louisiana State University Law Center.
