Phelps Puts Its Money Where Its Mouth Is to Support Restaurants During COVID-19 Shutdown
NEW ORLEANS — To support local restaurants when they needed it most, Phelps Dunbar’s New Orleans office purchased $18,500 in gift cards to area eateries in May. The move, led by New Orleans Managing Partner Marshall Redmon, aimed to bolster restaurant sales during the COVID-19 shutdown.
During the shutdown from March 16 to May 16, restaurants closed their dining rooms and limited service to takeout and delivery orders. This left many scrambling to find new ways to serve customers while coping with drastically reduced business and the personal effects of COVID-19 felt by the whole community.
Through the shutdown, Phelps remained committed to our local restaurant industry by spearheading the L.I.G.H.T. initiative with other law firms, which donated more than $150,000 to the Krewe of Red Beans. The krewe served thousands of meals to health care workers in area hospitals, keeping restaurants in business and hiring out-of-work musicians as delivery drivers.
The restaurant industry is a vital part of New Orleans culture. Phelps is committed to helping preserve that culture during the fight against COVID-19 and each step of the way on the community’s road to recovery.
