Two Phelps Partners Honored by New Orleans CityBusiness Leadership in Law
NEW ORLEANS — Oct. 28, 2021 — Phelps partners Will Bishop and Allen Miller were recognized by New Orleans CityBusiness’ Leadership in Law, which honors 50 local lawyers each year for their career and community achievements. This is Allen’s second year and Will’s first year receiving this award.
As part of Phelps’ business group, Will guides clients through mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and securities compliance issues. He works with emerging companies to build their business from the ground up, helping them secure financing and manage corporate growth. And for the past several years, he’s served on both the board and advisory board of Operation Spark, which provides low-income students in New Orleans with a path to careers in software development.
When asked about his practice, Will said, “Overall, it’s just incredible to see what kind of impact an idea in the hands of a motivated entrepreneur can have on the person and the community around them, and I love helping people bring their ideas to life.”
Allen’s litigation practice focuses on helping a wide range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to insurers, navigate complex commercial disputes. He often leads the trial team in high-stakes suits, including the team that won the first COVID-19 business interruption case tried in the U.S. When he’s not advocating for clients, he’s making a difference in the community through his work with St. Augustine High School and Fore!Kids Foundation and tackling economic and social issues as a member of the Young Leadership Council and the New Orleans Regional Leadership Institute.
Allen believes that “you’re only as good as the lawyers you learn from,” crediting his mentors for setting an example for him and steering him along the path that led him to Phelps. He’s now the one setting an example by managing younger lawyers at the firm and by staying active in his community.
New Orleans CityBusiness celebrated Will, Allen and their fellow honorees with a reception at the New Orleans Museum of Art on Oct. 25.
