Walt Green Joins City of Baton Rouge Police Chief Candidate Review Committee
BATON ROUGE – Oct. 18, 2023 – Phelps Partner Walt Green was selected by the City of Baton Rouge’s Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome to serve on the committee that reviews candidates for the next Police Chief of the Baton Rouge Police Department.
The committee hosts a diverse group of individuals that have had consistent and reliable involvement with community and policing matters. Committee members will interview candidates and provide recommendations based on candidates who are experienced, progressive and visionary in their efforts to tackle crime and continue the downward trajectory of violent crimes, utilize modern policing tactics, maintain and grow the police department, embrace community involvement, and uphold values of integrity and transparency.
“The 2017 open and transparent search for the chief of police yielded great benefits in selecting a leader, along with understanding the community’s position on the pressing issues at that time. I believe this current search will be served well with the same approach,” said Mayor Broome. “I expect the candidates to be committed to ongoing reform and the completion of existing investigations.”
Walt has over 20 years of experience in law enforcement, is a former United States Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana, and served as the chief federal enforcement officer over nine parishes. He was responsible for prosecuting federal crimes including those related to terrorism, public corruption, cybercrimes, health care fraud, financial crimes, human trafficking, child exploitation and drug trafficking networks. He also served as the Executive Director for the National Center for Disaster Fraud from 2013 to 2017 and worked with local federal and state law enforcement agencies to investigate and report fraudulent activities associated with national disasters to law enforcement agencies nationwide.
