Matt Terrell practices in the area of commercial litigation, with a focus on property rights, eminent domain, real estate disputes and contract disputes. In particular, he has extensive experience in the area of condemnation and easement/right-of-way acquisition and protection on behalf of public utilities and governmental entities. He regularly represents utilities and condemning authorities in acquiring rights-of-way and other necessary property rights in time-sensitive projects. He has successfully handled the acquisition of hundreds of easements for electric transmission lines and natural gas pipelines through the eminent domain process in numerous counties throughout the State of Texas. Additionally, utility companies regularly call on him to assist with the prevention of encroachments on easements and the protection of rights-of-way.
In the course of his practice, Matt has handled numerous matters before the Texas Courts of Appeals and Texas Supreme Court. He also handles various real estate transactional matters.
Experience
- Successfully represented client before Texas Supreme Court in litigation involving complex condemnation issues related to access to property.
- Successfully represented Tarrant County in litigation to establish the location of Tarrant County’s disputed northern boundary line. Such litigation involved complex property law questions and complicated surveying issues and required multiple appeals/original proceedings before the Tarrant County Court of Appeals and the Texas Supreme Court.
