Marty McLeod practices in the area of marine and energy and business litigation law. He represents U.S. and foreign vessel owners as well as offshore energy companies in a variety of marine and energy matters, including regulatory issues, business counseling, bankruptcy, and property, loss of use, pollution and commercial disputes.
Marty serves as the practice coordinator of Phelps Dunbar's New Orleans admiralty group and is a current member of the firm's Operations Committee. Prior to entering the practice of law, he worked for an international ship owning company.
Experience
- Representation of marine and energy companies in Jones Act, BSEE and U.S. Coast Guard regulatory matters.
- Representation of marine and energy clients negotiating and drafting master service agreements, vessel bareboat, time, and voyage charters (NYPE, BIMCO, OFFSHORE), operating agreements, construction, installation and removal contracts, wreck removal and salvage agreements, and terminal agreements.
- Representation of insurers in coverage dispute against BP arising out of Deepwater Horizon/Macondo Well casualty.
- Representation of vessel owner and its insurers in connection with multiple class action suits arising out of Hurricane Katrina.
- Representation against claims brought under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA).
