Stuart Richeson practices in the area of commercial litigation with an emphasis on construction matters, intellectual property issues and insurance. Stu has more than twenty-five years of experience in litigation and has appeared before state and federal courts in Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas and New York. He has tried numerous bench and jury trials and teaches Trial Advocacy at Tulane Law School.
Stu’s construction practice includes representing owners, contractors and subcontractors in construction defect litigation, delay claims, wage-and-hour litigation and enforcement of liens and privileges, as well as contract drafting and review. He also frequently writes and presents on construction law topics.
Experience
- At the conclusion of a three-day bench trial, obtained an involuntary dismissal of the claims brought against a firm client involved in heavy civil construction projects in Plaquemines Parish. The claims could have potentially resulted in a judgment in excess of $1 million against the client.
- Obtained a dismissal on summary judgment of the personal injury claims brought against the owner and operator of a karting track that resulted when the plaintiff collided with a kart being operated by another patron.
- Lead counsel for a general contractor on a large adaptive reuse project in a collective action under the Fair Labor Standards Act involving claims by over 300 laborers for unpaid overtime wages.
- Lead counsel in a federal jury trial for several Mardi Gras bead retailers in copyright infringement litigation over marijuana leaf-shaped Marid Gras beads.
