Labor Relations
Although union membership has declined in the last decade, unions remain aggressive in their organizing efforts. Additionally, the National Labor Relations Board, under the current administration, appears more supportive of unions and many expect the NLRB to get more involved in issues regarding nonunionized workplaces.
Attorneys in Phelps Dunbar’s labor and employment practice work closely with our clients in developing strategies for dealing with both union and non-union workplaces. We represent employers in all aspects of traditional labor-management relations, including union organizing campaigns, the defense of unfair labor practice charges, labor arbitrations, union contract negotiations and other collective bargaining issues, and all other matters arising under the National Labor Relations Act.
We are experienced in dealing successfully with strikes, lockouts, picketing, and union violence to help our clients continue operating efficiently during labor strife. We also advise on union issues that may arise out of mergers and acquisitions, successorship and business or plant shutdowns.
Finally, we counsel both our unionized and non-union clients in maintaining positive employee relations and provide training for management and supervisors on an array of workplace legal issue. By working closely with our clients and learning about their businesses and objectives, we are able to help our clients better protect themselves against potential labor and employment disputes.
